Don’t go into your homepage design without a plan! Here are 3 important questions you need to answer before you even think about starting your design.
Is your main goal to have clients book your service? Or is your main goal to have clients join your email list?
You will probably say ‘both’, but you need to choose one as your primary goal. It might change for different seasons of business, but it’s going to affect the structure of your web of your homepage, so you need to decide before you start designing.
Deciding on one goal allows you to create a clear path for your visitor to follow. If you don’t do that, they will get confused or bored and bounce from your site.
You need to know who your dream client is. Not a made-up person, an actual client that you loved working with.
How do they talk about themselves? How do they describe their main problem? What do they consider the ideal result to be? How will they know when they hit your homepage that they’re in the right place?
These are all important pieces of info that you need to include on your homepage, so make sure you take time to do your research and talk to an actual person!
What problem do you solve for your clients, and how do you do it. Also – how can you explain it in a way that your clients will recognize you as somebody who ‘gets them’.
You need to be clear about what you do and how you do it so you can position yourself as the perfect person to help solve your dream clients’ biggest problem.
If you don’t start with the three questions above, the result is usually a LONG, RAMBLY homepage that ends up accidentally being all about you. 😳
It’s not your fault, it’s what comes naturally to us as humans – we love to tell our own story.
But on your homepage, you need to know your main goal and then know your client well enough that you can make the decision super clear for them.
When your dream client hits your homepage, they are going to recognize themselves, they’re going to recognize you as someone who can help them and they’re going to be compelled to take the action that you set as your main goal.
