It’s a slippery slope – and most people fall into it when you DIY you website. You talk about yourself too much.
I get it. It’s so easy to do… because it’s what you know best! The story of how you got to where you are, and why you do what you do seem important and fascinating to you… but there just isn’t space for all that on your website.
When you started your business you probably read something about the ‘know like trust’ factor. You learned that to attract your dream clients, they need to get to know you.
So you fall into the trap of telling your whole life story. You talk about how you got started, why you do what you do, exactly how you do it, even what your credentials are. You fill up your website with details about you and your background.
And that just doesn’t work to attract clients.
Here’s what you need to do instead… Talk more to your clients. Observe the language your clients use to describe their problems. And then reflect that back on your website. Tell your clients’ story.
When you talk about the problem you solve in the way that your clients talk about it – they recognize you as someone who gets them. And that’s you you really build the ‘know like trust’ factor. That’s when clients come to you saying, ‘oh my gosh, it’s like you read my mind!’
That’s how you start attracting your dream clients. Not by telling all the details of your own story, but by putting yourself in your clients shoes, and telling their story.
